ChangeMaker 3D
Natalie and Luke are pioneers in the UK 3D concrete printing industry. They wanted to document the printing, transportation and installation of the UK's first 3D printed distribution chamber whilst demonstrating the potential of 3D concrete printing to attract partnerships and move infrastructure construction towards a greener future.
During pre-production, I worked with Natalie and her marketing support to shape the story and create a draft script that gave us a starting point. Markos Media put together a storyboard and shot list based on that script and then secured an extra camera operator and a drone pilot to capture all the shots that we'd need on the day of installation.
On the day, things moved very slowly at first and then it all happened at once. While the pace was slow, we made sure that we didn't waste any time by capturing all the b-roll opportunities and going through some practice interviews to help people get used to being in front of the camera and get over any nerves.
When it came to the installation, the pace picked up but we got the shots that we came for because we had already gone through a detailed plan and mapped out the venue, everyone had their positions and knew what their priorities were. We were in constant radio contact and were able to make changes when the plan changed, as it inevitably does.
When it came to editing, the brief was to make two videos, one that was a deeper dive into the project that could be viewed by people who were already interested in the potential of concrete printing and the other a summary that would introduce people to the project and whet their curiosity.
Since working on these videos, we have had the pleasure of working together on a couple of further projects as ChangeMaker's vision is realised and 3D printing is becoming more and more attractive to the construction industry.
